Time to Change

Good morning! I wanted to take a moment to announce a career change.

A long-time passion of mine has been the field of Integrative Medicine (see below). In fact, I've pursued extra training and certifications from various entities such as the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine (now the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine), the Institute for Functional Medicine, and the ReCODE Program. Up until this point I have implemented what I've learned into my primary care (Family Medicine) practice.

As of 30 June 2023 I will be leaving my primary care practice at Froedtert and joining an organization that has hired me solely as an Integrative Medicine practitioner. I have loved my primary care practice and am honored that my patients have included me in their journey to better health. However, at this time I will no longer be practicing primary care and am instead moving into this exciting specialty.

If you have been a patient of mine, thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me into your life. I know this is quite disruptive and disruption does not engender the best feelings in most people. But I encourage you to seek out a new primary care practitioner; I recommend any of my colleagues at Froedtert. If you need an Integrative Medicine physician, your new PCP should be able to refer you to one.

It's a little unclear what I am legally permitted to say on this medium, so I am only providing information I know won't get me in trouble (as much as I like Froedtert, the legal team is just about as fun and helpful as a legal team from any organization!). I am not leaving Sheboygan and my new employer is contracted with insurance companies (i.e., I am not opening my own cash-pay practice).

Definitions of Integrative Medicine

From the Cleveland Clinic:

What is integrative medicine? Integrative medicine focuses on you as a whole person and not just your illness or disease. While it seeks to understand the underlying cause of your symptoms or condition, it does so by looking at your complete mind, body and spirit.

From the Mayo Clinic:

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the popular name for health care practices that traditionally haven't been part of conventional medicine. In many cases, as evidence of safety and effectiveness grows, these therapies are being combined with conventional medicine.

Thus, the term "alternative" has been dropped from the name. These therapies are now called complementary and integrative medicine, integrative medicine and health, or simply integrative medicine.

Integrative medicine combines the most well-researched conventional medicine with the most well-researched, evidence-based complementary therapies to achieve the appropriate care for each person.
